Bacterial community structure study during batch dark fermentation of glucose. fermentation metagenome

The aim of the study is to describe the relationship between the structure of bacterial communities composing natural inocula and their metabolic function observed during the process of dark fermentation. The study shows that both the bacterial community structure of the initial culture and the community selected by the biological process can both be linked to the metabolites produced. Especially, specific community structures of inocula were positively correlated with the production of bio-hydrogen, clean energy vector that gains interest because it can be produced through renewable ways. By making this link, we showed the possibility to design new statistical tools to help to decided what inoculum to choose depending on the bioproduct targeted, e.g. to produce bio-hydrogen.
