Gene expression of brown algae Saccharina japonica to iron limitation

Fe limits the primary production of macroalgae in coastal environments. However, no studies have investigated Fe limitation in macroalgae using molecular biological methods. The goal of this project is to reveal the physiological responses of macroalgae to Fe limitation. The brown macroalga Saccharina japonica var. religiosa was cultivated under Fe-deficient and Fe-enriched conditions, and changes in gene expression were analyzed. This study provides the fundamental insights on Fe limitation in macroalgae.
