Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) is a new bacterial disease, which severely threatened the shrimp culture industries. Though the pathogen of AHPND was identified as special member of Vibrio parahaemolyticus, its pathogenesis was still unclear. In the present work, we sequenced 4 AHPND-causing strains of Vibrio parahaemolyticus and 1 non-AHPND strain. The pathogenicity of the 4 AHPND-causing strains was significant different as evaluated by shrimp challenge experiment and Gnotobiotic Artemia rearing system together. This work will help to reveal the special pathogenesis of AHPND-causing strains of Vibrio parahaemolyticus and is the basic for the development of pathogenicity-specific markers, which will further be the foundation to evaluate the AHPND risk and block its spreading.
