Report: Workshop on Standardizing the Conduct of Observational Studies in Epidemic Settings

On September 14–15, 2023, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) held a two-day workshop that convened experts on observational studies in epidemic settings including epidemiologists, clinical standards developers, ethicists, legal experts, social scientists, and data end users. The workshop goals were to 1) identify and prioritize new and persistent challenges affecting observational studies at different stages of the research pipeline (before, during, and following a study); 2) discuss recommendations to standardize and improve observational studies in epidemic settings; and 3) produce a list of immediate, actionable as well as long-term measures to address these issues.

2023年9月14日至15日，美国国立卫生研究院（NIH）下的国立过敏与传染病研究所（NIAID）举办了一场为期两天的研讨会，汇聚了流行病学专家、临床标准制定者、伦理学家、法律专家、社会科学家以及数据终端用户等观察性研究在流行病环境中的专家。研讨会的目标包括：1）识别并优先考虑影响观察性研究不同阶段（研究前、研究期间及研究之后）的新兴和持续存在的挑战；2）讨论旨在标准化和提升流行病环境下观察性研究的建议；3）制定一份包括即时可执行措施以及长期应对策略的问题解决清单。
