LMC 1995 comma the third supersoft X-ray nova

We propose to observe with the EPIC PN the supersoft Xray source Nova LMC 1995, which was recently detected during the calibration phase of the ROSAT PSPC in 1998. This nova is of exceptional interest to understand the possible connections between classical novae and type Ia SNe. Only twonovae have previously appeared as supersoft Xray sources, We are investigating what makes these object exceptional.XMM is at present the best suited instrumentto stydy supersoft Xray sources.
