Gestational diabetes and placental gene expression

Although gestational diabetes affects as great as 9% of all pregnancies, there is ambiguity as to whether it is a distinct disorder or an extended spectrum of normal human pregnancy endocrine physiology. In this study, placental specimens from subjects with rigorously defined pre-gestational diabetes, gestational diabetes, and non-diabetic controls were examined for changes in gene expression to demonstrate differences in molecular profiles by diabetic classification.
