This series comprises the subject correspondence files of the Secretary, later Manager of the Royal Melbourne Hospital (VA 1048). The chief administrative officer of the hospital was known as the Secretary until 1934, the title then changed to Manager, then to Executive Director in 1976, General Manager in 1996 and Chief Operating Officer since 2017. Until 1867 the Secretary was an honorary office. The Secretaries/Managers of the hospital for the period 1915 – 1984 were: • T.R Andrews 1899 - 1918 • J. Reeve Stocks 1919 - 1925 • A.H Teece 1926 - 1931 • Colonel R.E. Fanning 1931 - 1954 • Afton Morcom 1954 - 1964 • Leonard Swinden 1964 - 1984
