HS-SPME-GC-MS volatile profiling dataset of Bailan melon during short-term postharvest holding

This dataset supports the manuscript entitled “Short-term postharvest VOC dynamics in Bailan melon (Cucumis melo, Inodorus Group) characterized by HS-SPME-GC-MS”. The dataset contains processed HS-SPME-GC-MS volatile organic compound (VOC) profiling outputs, sample metadata, fruit-quality background metadata, fold-change-magnitude screening outputs, platform-derived rOAV-style audit outputs, flavor-note annotation summaries and figure-source data for Bailan melon fruit.

Five sample groups are included: self-rooted fruit sampled at the 45-day-after-fruit-set (45-DAF) harvest window, self-rooted fruit held at room temperature for 5 d, self-rooted fruit held for 10 d, grafted fruit held for 5 d, and grafted fruit sampled at the same 45-DAF harvest window. For VOC profiling, each group contained three pooled composite replicates, and each pooled composite was prepared from flesh tissue of three fruit. The replicate values should therefore be interpreted as pooled composite replicates rather than single-fruit biological replicates.

The dataset is intended for transparent reuse of processed VOC-profile data and supporting metadata. Fold-change-magnitude outputs are provided as descriptive screening results and should not be interpreted as variance-based significance testing. Platform-derived rOAV-style outputs are provided only as service-platform audit information and should not be interpreted as validated odor activity or sensory evidence, because compound-level threshold sources and sensory media were not traceable for all entries.
