资源简介:
This report presents historic architectural survey and National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) evaluation of the South Florida Operations Office (SFOO), located adjacent to Lake Okeechobee, in Clewiston. The SFOO has been the local USACE office for the Lake Okeechobee area beginning in the 1920s, and during a major period of USACE involvement in the flood control and navigation of the lake, from the late 1920s to the late 1930s. The SFOO complex includes three buildings constructed during the mid and late 1930s, at the latter end of the construction of the Herbert Hoover Dike (HHD) at Lake Okeechobee. The SFOO is a complex of approximately 17 buildings and one object located in Clewiston, Florida. Three buildings were recommended to be eligible for the NRHP under Criteria A and C, for their association with the USACE, which was an important factor in Clewiston’s history and in the construction of the Herbert Hoover Dike and for their construction in the Art Deco style.
