Contrasting Greenhouse Gas Dynamics Along a Coastal-to-Oligotrophic Ocean Continuum

This dataset contains surface concentrations and air-sea fluxes of CO2, N2O, and CH4 collected during five oceanographic cruises conducted between 2021 and 2024 across a coastal-to-open-ocean gradient in the western Pacific and eastern Indian Ocean. The regions include the Pearl River Estuary, Yangtze River Estuary, the Western Pacific Ocean (WPO), and the Eastern Indian Ocean (EIO). The dataset includes: Rawdata_GHGs.xlsx: Greenhouse gases concentrations (nmol L-1 for CH4 and N2O; μmol L-1 for CO2) and associated environmental variables: temperature (°C), salinity, fluorescence (mg m-3), oxygen (μmol L-1), DIN, phosphate, silicate, and wind speed (m s-1) Rawdata_flux.xlsx: Calculated air-sea fluxes (mmol m-2 d-1 for CO2; μmol m-2 d-1 for CH4 and N2O) All gas measurements were made using a static headspace equilibration method coupled to an Agilent 8860 GC system with FID, TCD, and ECD detectors. Fluxes were estimated using standard two-layer gas exchange models based on wind speed and temperature.
