The Role of Magnetite Nanoparticles in the Degradation of Phenol and P-Cresol in AnMBR

The study compared 2 AnMBRs, one was supplied with magnetite, and the other served as a control. The reactors were operated in two different phases. In the 1st phase, 20 mmol/L magnetite concentration was used, while 40 mmol/L magnetite concentration was used in Phase 2. In Phase 1, the reactors were inoculated with biomass from Shell adapted in the lab to phenol and p-cresol up to 200 mg/L concentrations. Whereas in Phase 2, the reactors were inoculated with biomass from the control reactor (AnMBR-C) after the end of Phase 1.
