资源简介:
This report has been prepared for, and at the request of, the River Basin Recreation Survey, Region Two Office, National Park Service, in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding between the Smithsonian Institution and the National Park Service, approved October 9, 1945. It is based on a preliminary archeological reconnaissance of the site of a proposed reservoir on White Rock Creek in Jewell County, north-central Kansas. The reconnaissance consisted of two field trips during the summer of 1951. The first, extending from June 4 through June 8, was interrupted by high water and rain; a second trip, from September 18 through September 21, was necessary for the completion of the reconnaissance. Field work consisted of consultation with local residents and actual inspection of the terrain. The surfaces of sites were searched for features and artifacts, and sites were photographed archeological data were recorded on standard forms. Sites attributable to the occupation of the area by white man and which might be of interest to historians were recorded and are reported here but no assessment of their importance has been attempted,
