Souza-Cardoso and Boccioni: A Comparison of Similar Movements

ABSTRACT Even though he was not affiliated to any of the so-called avant-garde movements that emerged during his brief lifetime, Souza-Cardoso's vast and prolific artistic work managed to relate to all these avant-garde movements, using beauty and grace to create his works. In contrast, Umberto Boccioni, a very diligent painter and sculptor, actively engaged in the avant-garde movements that swept through some areas of Europe like a wild fire, is an entirely futuristic author. I intend to consider the work of these two artists by putting special emphasis on the fact that they both had the same goal -- namely, the dynamics of the human body. Furthermore, I will also take into account their simultaneous convergence and divergence regarding the guidelines of the ultramodern manifesto.
