Global Strategic Trade Sovereignty Treaty (GSTST), 2025: A Civilizational Framework for Economic Non-Aggression, Collective Tariff Defense, and Global South Leadership

This work presents the Global Strategic Trade Sovereignty Treaty (GSTST), 2025, authored by B. Mazumdar (Independent Scholar), as the world’s first comprehensive multilateral framework designed to counter unilateral tariff aggression, extraterritorial sanctions, and coercive economic measures. The Treaty advances a Civilizational Sovereignty paradigm, positioning trade not merely as an economic instrument but as a reflection of cultural dignity, strategic autonomy, and the equal legitimacy of diverse developmental models. It proposes a set of unprecedented mechanisms including: Automatic Counter-Balancing Tariffs (ACBT) ensuring no member stands alone when targeted. Collective Trade Insurance Mechanism (CTIM) that neutralizes sanctions through immediate compensation. Strategic Sovereignty Fund (STSF) as a Global South-led financial shield for resilience. Civilizational Sovereignty Clause safeguarding cultural and developmental independence. Nullification Orders & Arbitration Courts providing binding enforcement against economic coercion. By integrating domains of digital sovereignty, climate-linked trade, biotechnology, AI fairness, cyber-defense, food and health security, and space-based trade, GSTST establishes a post-WTO architecture for the Global South. For India, this Treaty signifies leadership in shaping a new era of equitable globalization, anchoring South–South solidarity, and positioning itself as both a civilizational and economic power. This publication aspires to contribute to international legal scholarship, trade governance debates, and policy frameworks that seek to protect nations from unilateral coercive measures while promoting a cooperative, rules-based global order.
