Storage roots constitute the most economically important agronomic trait in sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) production. Various sweet potato cultivars with different storage root colors are presently available. we employed high-throughput sequencing technology to identify both conserved and novel miRNAs from two cultivars: Purple-fleshed sweet potato (PFSP) and White-fleshed sweet potato (WFSP) at two different developmental stages by Illumina sequencing platform.The aim is to improve our molecular biological understanding of flavonoids accumulation in sweet potato, and to provide a theoretical basis for purple-fleshed sweet potato breeding.
