The
results of the calculations in Table 1 are depicted in Figure 6. The number of
new blood vessels formed increased from day 2 to day 4 in all groups but was greatest
in the 96% snail mucus treatment group (mean, 17.2). Whereas angiogenesis
decreased from day 4 to day 7 in the 96% and 48% snail mucus treatment groups,
angiogenesis in the 24% snail mucus treatment and control groups increased over
these days. The number of new blood vessels formed in the 96% snail mucus
treatment group was consistently greater than those in the other treatment
groups on each day assessed.
