Zika virus infection leads to demyelination and axonal injury in mature CNS cultures

Zika virus (Flaviviridae; ZIKV) infects neural cells, and in-depth studies of host-virus interactions as well as host responses are critical to understanding pathological effects. Here the impact of ZIKV infection on the adult nervous system was investigated by infection of established mature myelinated CNS cultures derived from Ifnar1 -/- mice. Transcriptome analysis was used to identify host factors that were differentially regulated following infection.
