Nitrogen isotope measurements from Arctic rivers and permafrost degradation sites, February 2017 - September 2018.

This dataset contains measurements of various nitrogen isotopes of water samples taken from the six largest Arctic rivers. Nutrient concentrations (TDN, nitrate, phosphate, ammonium, DIN and DON) from the Ob, Kolyma, Yenisey, Lena, Mackenzie and Yukon rivers were used to help generate these isotopic data. These were taken from the publicly available ArcticGRO data repository (Holmes et al., (2021), https://arcticgreatrivers.org/data/) with permission from Holmes, R.M, so are not shown in this dataset. The physical water samples that these measurements were made from were utilised and nitrogen (and oxygen) isotopes of nitrate were measured along with nitrogen isotopes of TDN and DON as part of this project by Francis, A and Tuerena, R.E. The samples were collected between February 2017 and September 2018 for the ARISE project which is part of the Changing Arctic Ocean project. This dataset also contains data from permafrost degradation site samples and downstream in the Kolyma River. These were collected by Spencer, R.G.M and Rogers, J.A and were analysed for concentrations of nitrate, TDN and DON as well as the same isotopes outlined above by Francis, A. The combination of the isotopic measurements from ArcticGRO samples along with the nutrient and isotopic measurements from the Kolyma River form this submitted dataset.
