To evaluate the biological effects at the transcriptional level of manufactured nanomaterials, whole genome microarray analysis of rat lungs intratracheally instilled with cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) with different physicochemical properties or multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were performed. Rats intratracheally instilled with three types of CNFs (CNF1, CNF2, and CNF3), MWCNTs (0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mg/kg), and their solvents as vehicle control were dissected at 1day, 3 days, 7 days, 30 days, and 90 days post-instillation, and then the lungs were used for microarray analysis.
