资源简介:
Super-2 needs on the Primary Highway System were evaluated in order to target corridors where capacity needs were not identified, but corridor operation could be enhanced with improvements such as climbing/passing lanes, left- and right-turn lanes, acceleration lanes, wider paved shoulders, limited access, and geometric improvements. These corridors will effectively serve as an enhanced network of two-lane highways providing improved statewide mobility and safety while complementing the existing and committed multilane network. As part of the 1997 State Transportation Plan, the Iowa DOT introduced Super-2 style roadways with the basic goals of maximizing the benefits of two-lane roadways through improved roadway safety, capacity, and mobility, while reinforcing the growing importance of lowing right-of-way needs and construction and maintenance costs. Mobility and Safety was one of several layers that were examined as part of the highway improvement needs analysis conducted for the 2017 State Transportation Plan. Mobility and safety needs on the Primary Highway System were evaluated in order to target corridors where capacity needs were not identified, but corridor operation could be enhanced with improvements such as climbing/passing lanes, left- and right-turn lanes, acceleration lanes, wider paved shoulders, limited access, and geometric improvements. Improvements would be similar to a relaxed application of the “Super-2” design concept. Over time, the targeted corridors would serve as a complimentary network to the state’s multilane highway network. For more information, see iowadot.gov/iowainmotion.Note: this dataset supersedes SCOPING_MOBILITY_AND_SAFETY_RETIRED, effective with the publication of the State Long Range Transportation Plan (SLRTP) and Freight Plan update in 2022. In previous long range planning efforts, all mobility and safety related attributes were consolidated into a single dataset. Starting with the State Long Range Transportation Plan (SLRTP) update in 2022, elements of safety and mobility were seperated into different datasets, although the methodology used to identify cooridors for Super-2 needs remained the same.
