BAT001 - Batta - A history of Batta speakers

This dataset contains an extended discussion in Papuan Malay about the history of Batta speakers, with Henop Dey (born 1943), a native speaker of Batta. The session was recorded on 9 December 2019, in Yenenas village (Batanta island, Raja Ampat regency, Southwest Papua province, Indonesia). As well as the audio file (wav), an Elan file (eaf) and a text file (txt) are also provided, which include a transcription of the conversation, and a translation into English. The dataset relates to the Postdoctoral Fellowship 'Synchronic and diachronic investigations in Raja Ampat-South Halmahera, a little-known subbranch of Austronesian' (PF19\100004); additional fieldwork funds were provided by a Moray Endowment Grant from the University of Edinburgh.
