The purpose of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a pulp fiber raw material suitable as a cellulose raw material. This invention is as follows. A method for producing pulp fiber raw material as a cellulose raw material from pulp fiber to be treated， characterized by involving an ozone treatment step (S36) in which， by supplying an ozone-containing gas to a treatment tank containing a treatment liquid that contains pulp fiber inclusions containing pulp fibers to be treated， ozone-treated pulp fibers are formed from the pulp fibers to be treated， and an alkali treatment step (S39) for treating the aforementioned ozone-treated pulp fibers with an alkaline aqueous solution to form the aforementioned pulp fiber raw material having a hemicellulose content ratio less than 8.0 mass%.
