cDNA was extracted from venom gland tissues derived from two adult painted saw-scaled vipers (Echis coloratus) and sequenced using the Oxford Nanopore MinION portable DNA sequencer with R7.3 flowcells, the 2D cDNA sequencing protocol and Nanopore Sequencing Kit SQK-MAP005. Sequencing utilised both standard 48-hour sequencing protocols and a modified 4x 8-hour protocol (J. Tyson, pers com.), run using the MinKNOW software (version 0.49.2.9). For the 48hr runs, a fresh aliquot of sequencing library was added at around 24 hours. Base-calling from read event data was performed by Metrichor (version 2.26.1) using the 2D basecalling workflow (version 1.14).
