Archaeological survey in the Gila National Forest during June
and July 1989 by the State University of New York at Buffalo was
a continuation of previous archaeological field projects (Nelson
1982, 1983, 1985, 1988) intended to increase existing information
about prehistoric occupation of the east side of the Black Range,
New Mexico. The information collected in the forest survey
supplements archaeological data recovered from lower elevations in
the Black Range by expanding knowledge about the extent of
prehistoric land use within the forest zone.
