Effect of Methenamine Hippurate on the Urinary Microbiome of Women with Recurrent Urinary Tract Infection

Our long-term goal is to find new strategies to prevent recurrent urinary tract infection (RUTI) without the need for antibiotics. Our hypothesis is that the resident urobiome of women with RUTI will be altered by administration of oral methenamine hippurate (MH). Our rationale is that better understanding of how MH alters a particular participant urobiome phenotype could be used to predict the effectiveness of MH for RUTI prevention, avoiding the need for antibiotics. Our objective here is to longitudinally phenotype participants urobiomes before and during MH treatment
