Syncerus caffer Genome sequencing. Syncerus caffer

Cape Buffalo (Syncerus caffer) are one of the most ecologically important African bovids. In some areas they are the most important grazers and have a large impact on gassland management. In order to facilitate research into the genetics of cape buffalo populations we have sequenced the genomes of pooled DNA from 9 buffalo. The data were used to develop genotyping assays which will be used for further studies of buffalo populations.
