The ongoing COVID-19 outbreak in Jordan demonstrates the need for continuous surveillance, rapid diagnosis, and real-time tracking of SARS-CoV 2. Molecular surveillance and comparative analysis at the genomic level could provide more insights regarding the evolution of CoVs strains and whether they pose a threat to the public health of Jordanian people or not. Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) has been used in deep sequencing of the complete viral genome and offers significant opportunities for increasing our understanding of CoVs evolution, distribution, and transmission. This project aims to conduct active surveillance and molecular characterization of SARS-CoV 2 in Jordan, using NGS technology.
