This dataset supports the manuscript “Quantification of Anopheles daily sugar feeding rates in Siaya County, western Kenya using Attractive Sugar Baits.” The data were generated during validation studies conducted prior to large-scale epidemiological trials of Attractive Targeted Sugar Baits (ATSBs) in western Kenya. The study aimed to quantify daily sugar feeding rates of malaria vectors and to evaluate whether the deployment of two versus three Attractive Sugar Baits (ASBs) per structure affected mosquito feeding behavior. Data were collected in Rarieda Sub-County, Siaya County, using a cross-over experimental design involving ten treatment and two control clusters. Mosquitoes were sampled using ultraviolet CDC light traps and Prokopack aspirators, identified morphologically and molecularly, and examined for fluorescence to determine sugar feeding on uranine-marked ASBs. Sporozoite infection rates were determined by ELISA, and data analyses were performed using R statistical software. These data were used to estimate daily sugar feeding rates of Anopheles funestus s.l. and An. gambiae s.l., and to assess whether observed feeding rates meet modelled thresholds for ATSB efficacy. The dataset provides a valuable resource for researchers studying mosquito behavior, malaria transmission dynamics, and the evaluation of novel vector control tools.
