Mitochondrial respiration was measured in the presence of glucose-derived (pyruvate/malate) or fat-derived substrates (palmitoylcarnitine/malate). The measured oxygen consumption (normalized to citrate synthase activity) is expressed as nmol O2 s−1/CS.
