Areas Of Drilling Concern

The area of drilling concern designation is designed to protect public health and to prevent waste or contamination of ground or surface water because of factors such as aquifer pressure, vertical depth of the aquifer, warm or hot ground water, or contaminated ground or surface waters. Aquifers areas designated as an area of drilling concern have additional well construction requirements that must be followed. The statute applies to both new wells being drilled and to the deepening or modification of an existing well.
