Data and code for the analysis of fish and amphibian metacommunies in floodplains based on eDNA, 2021-2023

Samples were taken in two floodplain regions along the Danube River: the Donau-Auen National Park in Austria and the Danube-Dráva National Park in Hungary. Fish and amphibian communities were assessed using environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding. 30 sites were samped over 2021–2023 at in total 11 occasions. The dataset contains all files and R code for the analysis of metacommunities as complex networks including species interaction networks, spatiotemporal dynamics and importance of environmental factors. This includes running a Bayesian network learning approach based on bootstrapping as well as graph theoretic analysis of the output of the BN learning approach. Sub-communiteis with joint habitat requirements are determined based on network consensus clustering. Important species for network connectivity are determined with participation coefficient. Preperation steps of all relevant statistical tests and graphical representation is included. Raw DNA sequences are available upon request at the authors. For details check README file.
