Swarm small- and medium-scale magnetic fluctuations

This dataset contains the following three data files in netCDF format:[1] MF_index_SwarmA_20180801_20200731.nc[2] MF_index_SwarmA_20230501_20250430.nc[3] MF_index_SwarmB_20230501_20250430.nc

Each file contains a list of nighttime small- and medium-scale magnetic fluctuations, as detected by high-resolution (50 Hz) magnetic field measurements by ESA's Swarm satellite mission. These magnetic fluctuations are often attributed to interhemispheric field-aligned currents associated with traveling ionospheric disturbances.

The files [1] and [2] are based on the magnetic observations by Swarm A, whereas the file [3] is by Swarm B. The file [1] covers a solar minimum period from 01 August 2018 to 31 July 2020, whereas the files [2] and [3] cover a solar maximum period from 01 May 2023 to 30 April 2025. The magnetic fluctuation (MF) index indicates the detection of events (MF=1 for detected, MF=0 for not detected).
