A topographic dataset for Heard Island from the Heard Island Mosaic (2017-2019 imagery)

A topographic dataset of Heard Island produced in 2024 by the Australian Antarctic Data Centre (AADC). The dataset includes 4 polygon feature classes - coastline, sea, hydrology and vegetation (partial dataset only and includes McDonald Islands) and 2 line feature classes - coastline and hydrology. Features digitised include: coastline, offshore rocks, islands, vegetation (some areas), streams, lakes, waterholes and lagoons. The data were derived by manual on-screen digitisation of features from the Heard Island mosaic created from Level 2A WorldView-2/3 satellite imagery acquired between 2017 and 2019 (see Metadata ID: Heard_Island_Mosaic_2017_2019 for Image ID information and further details on mosaic).Digitisation was at a minimum scale of 1:1000. The dataset also includes some offshore rock/small island features that are part of a Geoscience Australia dataset, where features were extracted from the Heard Island mosaic (2017-2019) by using image segmentation and classification, converting to vector data and smoothing lines. The data source for individual features (either Geoscience Australia or Australian Antarctic Division) is specified in the attribute tables.
