Prevalence and Genetic Basis of ESBL Producing Escherichia coli carriage in farm broiler in the UAE context

The main project focuses on investigating the prevalence and genetic basis of extended-spectrum Beta-lactamase (ESBL) producing Gram-negative bacteria in poultry farms in Al Ain, UAE. It aims to assess antimicrobial resistance patterns, identify key resistance genes, and analyze potential zoonotic transmission. The study involves phenotypic and genotypic characterization of bacterial isolates, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and whole-genome sequencing to determine the spread of resistance determinants. The findings emphasize the public health risks associated with multidrug-resistant bacteria in poultry and the need for enhanced antimicrobial stewardship and biosecurity measures.
