SBC LTER : Reef: Macrocystis pyrifera frond morphology at Mohawk Reef

These data describe the morphology of actively growing,
surface-canopy fronds of the giant kelp Macrocystis
pyrifera collected from the interior and edge of the
kelp forest at Mohawk Reef near Santa Barbara, CA from May 2005 to
April 2006. Included are values for the length, wet mass, stipe
diameter, stipe mass, number of blades, and total blade mass of
the midwater and canopy portion of each frond. These data were
used by Stewart et al. (2009) to differences in growth, morphology
and tissue C and N of M. pyrifera within and
at the outer edge of a giant kelp forest.
