资源简介:
This dataset is based on comments from Ekşi Sözlük, a popular Turkish online forum, covering the period from February 15, 1999, to February 15, 2024. Utilizing its advanced search function, 1,026 topic titles related to 'Arabic' and related terms like 'Syrian + native language' were identified. These titles were categorized into three groups: moral panic, controversial non-moral panic, and non-controversial non-moral panic, based on the presence and nature of perceived threats or controversies surrounding Arabic in Turkey.A thematic analysis, guided by Braun & Clarke's (2006) framework, was conducted on the identified moral panic titles. This involved identifying recurring discourses and themes portraying Arabic as deviant or threatening within specific contexts. Additionally, a subset of 3,200 comments from moral panic titles was further analyzed to categorize commenting behavior into two types: those contributing to the propagation of moral panics by portraying Arabic as threatening, and those resisting such portrayals by adopting skeptical or neutral positions. Annotations were applied to classify comments based on their role in either fueling or resisting moral panics surrounding Arabic language discourse.

ID: Represents an anonymized comment.Context: Indicates whether the topic title associated with the comment relates to a moral panic (mp) or non-moral panic (nmp) context.Controversial: Specifies whether the topic title is controversial (yes) or non-controversial (no).MP Title Context: Defines the specific type of moral panic context for the associated topic title.Annotation: Describes whether the comment contributes to (fueling) or resists (resisting) the moral panic atmosphere. The corresponding comments and titles in the dataset were anonymized and assigned ID numbers.
