资源简介:
This collection contains text documents, images, and site records from an archaeological evaluation and Strip, Map and Sample excavation carried out by AOC Archaeology Group on land to the north of Shepley Street, Glossop, Derbyshire, between March and May 2015. The work was commissioned by Wiggett Construction Ltd. Ten evaluation trenches of varying dimensions were excavated across the development site. The excavations revealed the truncated remains of an 18th-century cotton mill known to have occupied the southern part of the site, along with elements of a 19th-century pond and sluice. The best-preserved features were associated with the mill's 19th-century boiler house, including stone walls, a brick flue, a substantial brick foundation interpreted as a steam boiler base, and in situ flagstone flooring. Three phases of construction were identified, suggesting progressive upgrading of the power system. A trench targeting a row of terraced houses linked to the mill produced no archaeological results.
