资源简介:
This collection comprises site records and a report from a Historic Building Recording at Winker Green Mills, Stanningley Road, Leeds, West Yorkshire. Works were undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group in December 2005 and between December 2006 and March 2007. Winker Green Mills consisted of five main buildings which were due to be demolished or converted, all of which were built between 1820 and 1890 providing a valuable insight into the development and workings of a leading woollen mill in Leeds during the 19th century. The mill was of particular interest because of the surviving historical features within, including willeying room, two vertical engine houses (the entablature beam still in place in the first earlier engine house) and the original adjacent boiler house and double drying floors above. The main workrooms provided evidence - through blocked up bearing boxes and transmission boxes - of the original power transmission design of the mills as well as giving some indication of their former function.
