Dataset: Citizen Science Monitoring of Native Potato Varieties in Colombia – 2024

This dataset contains information collected through the VarScout mobile application as part of the Pilot Citizen Science Monitoring of Native Potato Varieties at Colegio Cumbe, Cumbal, Colombia – 2024. The monitoring was implemented as a pilot initiative using a focused citizen science approach involving a small, selected group of secondary school students and teachers from Colegio Cumbe, located in the Andean region of southern Colombia. The pilot aimed to test the feasibility of integrating digital tools and citizen science methodologies into an educational setting, while generating preliminary data on the diversity and local knowledge of native potato varieties cultivated in nearby farming areas. The dataset includes a limited number of field observations of native potato varieties, primarily identified by local names reported by farming households collaborating with the school activities. Records are georeferenced at the field level within the local area surrounding Colegio Cumbe.
