THE "FEAST" PHENOMENON IN THE LITERARY CHRONOTOPE OF ENGLISH LITERATURE

This article investigates the “feast” phenomenon as a significant chronotopic structure in English literature. Drawing on Mikhail Bakhtin’s theory of the literary chronotope, the study examines how feast scenes function as intersections of time, space, and meaning, revealing social hierarchies, psychological tensions, and ideological conflicts. Through qualitative textual analysis of selected works by Shakespeare, Austen, Dickens, and Woolf, the research identifies the genesis, typology, and artistic functions of the feast chronotope. The findings demonstrate that the feast is not merely a narrative background but a dynamic semiotic space where social order is displayed, challenged, and reinterpreted. By systematizing the typology of feast chronotopes and analyzing their narrative functions, this study contributes to chronotopic theory and offers a new perspective on the role of everyday cultural practices in literary representation.
