Results from the permafrost monitoring network at Mt. Innerer Knorrkogel, Austria, in 2024-2025

This dataset contains the monthly mean temperatures as well as an annual mean temperature value for the period between September 2024 and August 2025 from several ground temperature monitoring sites in the summit area of the mountain Innerer Knorrkogel in the Hohe Tauern Range, Austria. Ground temperature is monitored at a total of 17 locations above 2840 m, distributed across various ridges (southwest-, northwest-, and east-facing), mountain flanks (south-, west-, and northeast-facing), and the summit area itself. At three locations, the temperature is measured in shallow boreholes (at depths of 3, 10, and 30 cm) an near vertical rock faces, and at 14 locations at or near the ground surface at debris-sites. This work is embedded in a long-term monitoring initiative in the Hohe Tauern National Park and is funded by this national park and the Earth System Sciences funding program of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
