THE AXIOLOGICAL COMPONENT OF THE CONCEPT «TEACHER» IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK PAREMIOLOGY: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS

The article deals with the axiological (value) component of the concept TEACHER as it is represented in English and Uzbek paremiological units. The corpus comprises 115 proverbs and sayings (50 English and 65 Uzbek) selected from paremiographic sources. The comparative analysis has revealed five models of the teacher's image: mentor/guide, authority figure, source of light, parent-like figure, and master-craftsman. It is established that the English paremiological picture of the world represents the teacher predominantly as a pragmatic mentor and as a figure whose authority is functional and limited, whereas the Uzbek picture of the world sacralizes the teacher, equating him with the father and with a spiritual guide. The value component of the concept TEACHER in Uzbek paremiology is shown to be considerably more dense and more positively charged than in English. The results contribute to comparative axiological linguistics and to the linguoculturological description of the educational discourse of the two peoples.
