Roussoella was placed in a new family Roussoellaceae in 2014. As a rarely reported genus, there is a limited knowledge on the genome sequencing and secondary metabolite production of this genus, and thus studies are warranted to provide insights into genetic background and to probe chemical constituents with promising biological activities. As part of our continuing search for novel and biologically active secondary metabolites from the South China Sea fungi, the fungus Roussoella sp. 2E-C2 obtained from surface water of the South China Sea was studied.
