Administration of a thermophile-fermented compost to pigs modulates the gut microbiota that function through lactate metabolism

The alteration in intestinal bacterial profile by long-term administration of a compost extract to pigs were investigated. A D/L-lactate-producing bacterium, Lactobacillus amylovorus , L-lactate-producing bacterium, Streptococcus alactolyticus, a lactate-utilizing bacterium, Megasphaera elsdenii was isolated, respectively.
