We performed viral metagenomic analyses for the seafloor surface sediments in upper bathyal sediment from offshore Tohoku, Japan by using Ion PGM sequencing. We also perfomed the small subunit (SSU) rRNA gene tag sequencing using MiSeq to examine the potential microbial host populations.
