Although it has been possible to develop methods that have helped to characterize and detect the etiological agent causing AHPND, knowledge regarding the immune response mechanisms of L. vannamei against VpAHPND infection is still limited. In general, it is known that the defense system of crustaceans is based on cellular and humoral effectors, with hemocytes playing an important role because they are involved in processes such as phagocytosis, encapsulation, cytotoxicity and nodule formulation. Therefore, and based on the above, the present study aims to assess the cellular and molecular response of L. vannamei, under V. parahaemolyticus challenge, through histology and RNA-Seq to identify the genes and metabolic pathways involved in the immune response during the infection process.
