Digital Archive from Archaeological Evaluation and Excavation Work at Ballards Walk, Great Dunmow, Essex, 2015

This collection comprises image, text, spreadsheet and CAD data from Archaeological Evaluation and Excavation work on land adjacent to Ballards Walk, Great Dunmow, Essex. The work was undertaken by Archaeology South-East June and July 2015. The evaluation and excavation were carried out in advance of redevelopment of this former parkland. A low incidence of prehistoric period remains was encountered with one feature, a gully, dating tentatively to the Late Bronze Age and a background level of prehistoric pottery residual in later contexts. The remainder of the features were late medieval, aside from one post-medieval pit, and consisted of a system of ditches interpreted as field boundaries, together with a large number of shallow pits. The majority of these pits may relate to vegetation clearance prior to the agricultural activity.
