Spirochaetes are free-living, animal and protist-associated bacteria that are mainly helically-shaped, Gram-negative and motile with a distinctive cellular organization. They are also widespread in sulfur-rich environments like seas and oceanic ecosystems with a high level of H2S. Oceanispirochaeta crateria K2 has been isolated from a bottom marine sediments in Kraternaya Bay, Yankicha Island, Middle Kuriles of Russian Federation. It has been deposited into DSMZ microbial collection under DSM16308T. Its complete sequence and full methylome were determined using Pacific Biosciences SMRT sequencing.
