Two independent assemblies of Asian seabass genome using HGAP and FALCON assemblers. Asian seabass genome project

Lates calcarifer (Asian seabass/Barramundi) is a carnivorous, marine bony fish. It is is euryhaline and catandromous and also an important fish species from an aquaculture perspective. The Asian seabass has an estimated genome size of ~700Mb and in this study with the support of pacific biosciences sequencing platform we attempted to produce an “improved high-quality draft of the genome”. With the available sequence data we generated two draft genome assemblies using HGAP and FALCON assemblers. This genome sequence information will form a basis for genome annotation and greatly help us to enable the development of elite Asian seabass varieties in terms of growth as well as disease resistance.
