Objective: Demonstrate that the gastrointestinal microbiota is an overlooked major risk factor for breast cancer that interplays with many of the above mentioned known risk factors.Methods: In 29 newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and 32 healthy controls, we assessed colonic sigmoid mucosal and fecal microbiota compositions using high-throughput 16S ribosomal RNA gene amplicon sequencing.
